Passing Distractions

Now your puppy is beginning to understand how to walk with you on lead, we can teach them that the same rules apply even when walking past things that are super distracting.

When and Where: begin teaching them to pass low distractions during your walks such as people on the other side of the road. Once your puppy is successful at this, you can begin to use it when passing more enticing distractions such as dogs on the other side of the road. First you can try curving around them to create a little distance, making this a little easier. Each of your puppies will have a different ‘top distractions’ list, be sure to know your puppies so that you can build this appropriately.

If your puppy struggles with this, try stopping and watching things walk past you to begin with.
